The Shepherd Chemical Company asked Holt & Reichard to expand their research and development laboratories in Norwood, Ohio. After the purchase of a neighboring property, a portion of that building was designated for the R&D Laboratory. After removing the suspended ceiling, the old wood trusses were too appealing to cover back up. This presented many challenges, as the old ceiling was not in good condition. Holt & Reichard spliced new joist to every existing joist in order to level the ceiling. The joists were then covered with a decorative ceiling material and finish trim was applied. New plumbing was installed and the existing acid resistant tile was salvaged. A new conference room with full glass wall was created. This project was a collaboration between Holt & Reichard, Inc., The Shepherd Chemical Company, and in-house mechanical contractors of Shepherd Chemical. The lab was then dedicated in the memory of Bernard J. Darré, a former President of the company.
